In time for the holiday shopping season, and available year round, you can help support the Matt Davis Foundation when you shop online. The website allows for you to have a percentage of your purchase totals be donated back to the foundation. When you go to the website to register, type in the Matt Davis Foundation as your designated charity of choice and then when you shop at over 1,000 stores online the foundation’s account is credited with the donated portion. If you can’t keep track of which stores donate through then download their toolbar which alerts you when you are on a donor site. You can always sign in through and click on the links to the retailers through the site to register your donations as well. There’s nothing more for you to do. A little bit over time will add up. If you are going to shop online, you can help out the foundation at the same time. We appreciate your consideration in supporting us in this way.

In addition to the annual Matt Davis Award, the board agreed to donate to other Richmond-area causes related to its mission of supporting organizations that “provide comfort and care to cancer patients and their families.” This year’s recipients include the Hospital Hospitality House, the From the Heart Stitchers, Full Circle Grief Center and the CJ Thumbs Up Foundation. The Hospital Hospitality House provides lodging at a reduced cost for family members of those receiving treatment at MCV. The “From the Heart Stitchers” knit chemo hats for local cancer centers among other worthwhile causes. The Full Circle Grief Center is a resource center that helps children and their family deal with grief. The CJ Thumbs Up Foundation was established in memory of CJ Reynolds, a 4-year old that passed away from after a battle with a brain tumor. Their foundation helps provide meals for the families of children who are undergoing treatment and to financially assist families whose child is facing life threatening illnesses.

The foundation is also proud to honor the memory of two long time supporters, Janet Ruehle and Andy Jennings, who lost their battles with cancer within the past year. Janet is Matt’s cousin who along with her family could always be counted on to lend a helping hand at all of our events through the years. A fund in her memory has been established through the New Kent Educational Foundation.

Andy was known as the “publican” at Rare Olde Times, a favorite of many of our supporters. Rare Olde Times has made countless contributions to our fundraisers through the years that have helped defray the costs of our events. A memorial fund was established in Andy’s name after his passing.

Several hundred Matt Davis Foundation supporters packed Crenshaw Gymnasium in Ashland in January for our annual fundraiser. From a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales, a raffle for $500 in air travel and other donations, the fundraiser generated close to $5,000 for the foundation. Win Gouldin was the lucky winner of the air travel. The foundation thanks all of our supporters for coming out and supporting us, drawing a good crowd for the game and enjoying the reception afterwards. The reception was sponsored by Graham Rashkind with Keller Williams Realty, Tweed, Dodson Property Management and Commonwealth Escrow and Title. We’d also like to thank those who donated prizes to raffle at the reception, and Nutzy the Flying Squirrel for joining us.

The fans also saw Randolph-Macon defeat Guilford 74-45 in the 4th Matt Davis Foundation Day with Randolph-Macon basketball. Please save the date for our 5th game scheduled for Saturday, February 16 at 2 pm when the Yellow Jackets host Randolph in their home finale. The Matt Davis Foundation thanks the athletic department for their support and allowing us to work with them for our annual fundraiser.
